Every Tuesday, Radio Kaos Caribou invites an artist to talk about their actuality, music and art in general during #LaTwitterview. Tuesday Sept. 12th it was my turn to be interviewed by one of my favorite web radio.

Follow @RaidoKC on Twitter to keep in touch with them

#RKC
Good Evening Exomène.
Ready for your own & special #LaTwitterview ?

Exomène
Ready :)

#RKC
it's a true pleasure to have you today in #LaTwitterview as you are one of the most complete artists we met here on twitter 2 years ago

Exomène
Meeting you and RKC has really been an important moment in my artistic life. Thanks for all your support

#RKC
So easy to support artists like you but no more flowers my friend let's talk about your actuality.
#NP They're coming for you

Exomène
Interesting choice to get started. It's one of my first track under the name Exomène

#RKC
what are your current project you are working on ?

Exomène
There is a lot of things going on, the recording of my next album, the A/V performances and installations with my collective: L:ED
But I focus on the music right now. I'm introducing singing and real instruments for the first time on an album

#RKC
You started, please tell us more about this project ?

Exomène
This project is called Bedtime Stories and like the others, it transcribes feelings into music.
This time it's the world of dream [I depict], starting with the hypnagogic sensation when you fall asleep and ending with the hypnopompic

#RKC
you mean the time between awakening & sleeping :) ?

Exomène
Yes, that's the first and the last song, and the dreamns in between

#RKC
Very interesting to base your sound on the emotion we can feel in this particular time. Is it a personal experience ?

Exomène
Always. I make music when I feel the urge to transcribe an emotion I can't talk about
That's not personal psychotherapy though. I just find music more universal and accurate than words

#RKC
That's so true in so many moment :)
Is it because the lack of word to express your emotion you use music ? Do you use other art field the same way as vocabulary ?

Exomène
My other art is more guts / pleasure driven :)
Installation are the expression of my nerd side and performances of my wild one

#RKC
#NP Gerostenkorp - Teaser DAMN

Exomène
Speaking of my wild side, you're playing DAMN ;)

#RKC
When did you start to use music to express some universal feeling through it ?

Exomène
I don't know. I play music practically since I was born. I conceptualized that later

#RKC
But because we talked about that 2 years ago, you also like some less abstract music than the one you produce ?

Exomène
Well music is abstract by essence for me unless it is field recording
You see, music is for me the first conceptual / abstract art form and abstraction is what I like most in every art form

#RKC
So let's talk about your musical root and story. When did you play for the first time and why ?

Exomène
I was 3 I think. My parents thought music should be a part of my culture and education
So they sent me to music school very young. I learned solfege then the cello

#RKC
So you started a very classical way your first contacts with music. What was the treshold which changed that ?

Exomène
Adolescence :)
I was fed up with music theory, met a friend who started a band, and that's how it started
I needed to have pleasure playing again

#RKC
So after classical you fall into Rock music ?

Exomène
Well I've been listening to Rock since I found a cassette of Iron Maiden when I was 10. It was Fear of the dark
Then I found my father's progressive rock albums :)

#RKC
And started the back in time process ?
#NP Depeche Mode - Question of time

Exomène
Oh yes
I'm a geek at heart so I "studied" it quite seriously
I was helped by Francis Zegut's "La saga du métal" for a start
Depeche Mode is not a back in past process. I'm a kid of the 80s so the dark wave / cold wave / new wave have always been around

#RKC
Was only rock music in your scope or did you have any interest in electronic music or machines ? @Exomene

Exomène
That came later when I discovered industrial music
I found out with industrial metal bands like Ministry and NIN. I shifted to Throbbing Gristle and so. But I'm not a connoisseur

#RKC
Slowly slicing from industrial to something really abstract ? How many years did you pass before to be able to say 'I got my sound?
#NP Into the Light

Exomène
it happened in 2004 when I took this name and defined the aesthetic of distress with Dorianne Wotton
By the way the song you're playing is very Esthétique de la Désolation for me. I try to talk to the feelings directly

#RKC
so how did you find it ? Was it while creating or playing ?

Exomène
We were creating. I mean, we were talking of the way we are seeing the world
It was both an artistic and romantic encounter

#RKC
As we are not newspaper we won't ask any personal question ;)
Let's talk now about music market or the economy of the artists

Exomène
Wow, one hour won't be enough
Actually, I don't care of the market. But I would be glad if I could create without bothering about money

#RKC
But as we know you are awaken about the artist condition and way of life, what is your feeling about it ?

Exomène
As I see things, you can only make money from music indirectly by doing concerts and performances, jingles, music for ads and films
At least that's what I'd like to do

#RKC
videogame too ?

Exomène
I'd love that

#RKC
Is the digital distribution a good replacement for CDs ?

Exomène
As a free software and culture supporter, this should be free or contributed
If someone wants a service or a physical good, he should pay. But the very art written on disc should be free
Maybe it is not realistic but if I was realistic I would be a banker not a musician :)

#RKC
Good Point :) How do you see the future of music ? Full #CC licence or the major trusting once again the whole thing ?

Exomène
Well I can feel a gap between music as art and music as a marketed good

#RKC
But who wins at the end ? Do you see both system living each other for different kind of audience ?

Exomène
I think the two will keep on living in there own way. The underground music has always been here, crawling, shared...
All of us are different kind of audience from time to time. But I guess what was underground once ends up to be mainstream
I've never seen so much Motörhead or Ramones T-Shirts around than now. Even the great Ozzy Osbourne made a reality show...
What I want to says is who cares who wins? The important thing is that artists marketed or not give whatever emotion to the audience
And we'll all be happy ever after :)

#RKC
And what will be your future ? How do you see you as artists in 10 years ? Or what do you want to do in the next 10 years ?

Exomène
Tough one. In 10 years, I hope I have found the right balance between making money and creating
But what I really want to do is a tour. A few months on the road going everywhere in Europe or in the world

#RKC
That's a great idea Exomène with Dorianne Wotton of course ? Some visual & music live performance ?

Exomène
We're talking about that indeed. We're setting up all this.

#RKC
Oh you are already planning a Tour ? Any absolute country to visit ?

Exomène
Not planning yet. But we are in the process of allowing that to happen :)
But I would love to play in every country in Europe, and also everywhere people want to listen to us
what's important to me in a tour is being on the road. I don't have a destination, only the journey counts

#RKC
we saw you at @LEQU4TRE in Argenteuil this year any new date to announce ?

Exomène
We have a date to be confirmed. But since I really focus on the album I didn't plan anything yet

#RKC
#NP Fairies Over The Craddle
Any more information on this next release ?

Exomène
It is definitely made to be played live. I met amazing musicians: The K and Sophie Boss both very talented and experienced. I have a lot of fun playing with them.

#RKC
And few last words for any music apprentice ?

Exomène
I have no advice but if it feels good and if it feels right, do it.

#RKC
Thanks to you for sharing your time music sound & words with us tonight Exomène in your dedicated #LaTwitterview !

Exomène
Thank you very much RadioKC and to everyone around tonight :)
