The main technique that underlies the F#555 project is databending which is a form of hacking in the primary meaning of the word.

It is like altering the semantics of the signs constitutive of the data. Basically a file is a sequence of symbols which interpreted as expected renders the document the user wants. But when you change the interpretation the document rendered can be totally different from what it was in the origin.

The second technique is generative art. Even if databending has its own æsthetic in itself, when you change the semantics of a data sequence it can renders something that seems random, that seems noise or silence. The generative system of F#555 analyses the different interpretation of the data in order to avoid too much noise or silence.

These two techniques are used to generate several forms of pieces from the same floppy: music, image and videos.
